Do you remember the 90's?

Nick and I got into the car today, and I looked in the console for a church CD. Instead, the first thing that caught my eye was a Boyz II Men CD. I couldn't resist and stuck it in and started jamming out to Mo Town Philly. This was the conversation from there on out:

Nick: I never liked Boyz II Men.
Me: I LOVED Boyz II Men.
Nick: I bet you loved New Kids on the Block too.
Me: Nope, I was in like 1st grade when they were big. Besides, I liked to listen to what my brother's listened to.
Nick: And they didn't listen to NKOTB?
Me: No! They were a boy band!
Nick: And what would you call Boyz II Men?
Me: Gangsta Rap!
Nick: WHAT?
Me: They were thug life before thug life is what it is today.
Nick: No way. If they were rap then I would have listened to them.
Me: Okay, maybe they were R&B.

LONG PAUSE

Me: Do you remember gangs?
Nick: Like a band?
Me: No, like gangs. Bloods and Crypts. You don't really hear about them anymore.
Nick: Yeah, we mostly had a bunch of wannabes.
Me: I think we had some real ones at our school. I always wondered though, "If you are in a gang, then why are you still going to school?" I remember when they told us in the 4th grade that we could no longer wear read or blue, or hats, because they were all gang affiliated.
Nick: *Laughs*
Me: There was this one guy though...he wore a blue bandana, a navy shirt and droopy drawers...I bet he had a gun in them!
Nick: Did you just say "Droopy drawers?"
US: Cracking up laughing

I loved the 90's. I wish they would come back.

Some fun pictures of Brody

I'm blogging from work. I know. I'm so productive! :o) I just need a break from the endless paperwork every now and again though. I found these pictures on my work laptop...they are from my pre-blogging days of Brody. He was so tiny back then. Nick and I were reflecting last night on how fast the time has gone by, and he has gotten so big!

Hello from the world without internet!

Sorry it has been so long! Nick and I are doing a financial makeover right now...which means we have done away with internet. So...we have done it. We have jumped into the world of thriftiness...and what a wonderful place! We have begun to be relieved of the every day stresses that comes from living paycheck to paycheck, and have been able to see the wonderful possibilities that our financial future hold for us. We will begin to be able to save and work on paying off our mortgage at a quick rate. Nick is also looking for a part time job that he can bring steady income in, while still building his business and finishing school.

Anyway, enough with the boring money stuff...lets see...what cute things have my kids done lately?

* Last night, Brody climbed in bed with me at 3:00 in the morning. He fell fast asleep and began saying "WOOOOO pisseeee (pigsooie in 2 year old talk) RAZORBACKS!" over and over. A child after my own heart...calling the hogs in his sleep!
* Peyton is smiling and cooing and laughing so much more. It is so fun to watch her little personality develop.
* Nick asked Brody today..."Are you my little boy?" to which he replied "NO! Dat's Brody!" Then, Nick asked "Are you a ham bone?" "NO! I not a ham bone! Dat's Brody!!!" He is too big for nick names apparently.
* Brody is absolutley downright obsessed with the Jungle Book.

There isn't a whole lot new in mine and Nick's lives. I just finished the first book in the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer. I'm hooked! Nick is busy with Roark, his business, and school.
I am blogging from my MIL's computer, and found these pictures...how fun! We were both young and SKINNY! :o)

I LOVE Her!

Church of Toys

According to Brody, we no longer belong to the Church of Bubbles. We belong to the Church of Toys. Tonight, we decided to take our scripture study to Brody's level, and read a story from The Friend Magazine and talked about it with him. Afterwords, we talked about the Atonement, and asked Brody once again what church we go to. He thought about it, and replied "toys!" We tried to correct him, and said that we belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ, to which he replied "NO!" So, we asked again: "Brody what church do you go to?" "TOYS!" What a silly boy!

He brought the room back to reverence with his sweet prayer though:

"Heavenly Father, thank you food. Bless sleep good, daddy, and Peyton. Thank you. Jesus Christ, Amen."

His prayer melted my heart. We must be doing something right! :o)

Thanks Carrie...

...for giving me a photoshop lesson! I'm gonna have lots of fun!

Poo Poo on the Floor?

Brody came up to me today, very excitedly. In his hand he held a napkin with a flake from his Special K cereal that he ate last night. He tapped my leg and said "Wook Mommy! Wook! I throw in trash!" I said "Okay! Good boy! What is it?", to which Brody responded with a disgusted look on his face "Poo Poo."

Nikki's 8's!

I got this off Valerie's blog and thought it would be fun to do.

8 things I'm passionate about:

1. My children- they are the loves of my life

2. My husband- the other love in my life

3. My family- they have done so much for me throughout my life

4. Social Work- I love what I do. I love my job. I love the saying that goes something like "When I die, it won't matter what kind of car I drove, how big my house was, or how much money was in my bank account. What matters is that I was important in the life of a child."

5. Exercise and fitness- I love losing weight! I love getting fit and being in shape.

6. Baking- does not go well with the #5, but oh well. I love to bake!

7. Scrapbooking- do I need to explain?

8. Blogging- I love being able to preserve my family's history electronically.

8 things I want to do before I die

1. Have enough money in my bank account so that we are not living paycheck to paycheck anymore.

2. Go on a church history tour of the United States and South America.

3. Take my family to Disneyworld or Disneyland.

4. Write a novel- I've always been a writer, but since college, have not had the time to express my imagination on paper.

5. Serve a mission with my husband when our kids are grown.

6. Start my own practice.

7. Go to Utah...I think I'm the only Mormon in the world who hasn't been! :)

8. Go scuba diving in Beaver Lake and see all of the historic land markers under the water.

8 things I say often:

1. I'm stressed.

2. I love you.

3. Come here, Brody.

4. Hello princess! (To Peyton of course)

5. I'm tired.

6. It's rest time, little man.

7. Dang it!

8. Babe (to Nick...I think we have forgotten each other's real first names)!

8 things that attract me to a friend:

1. Sense of humor

2. Caring

3. Honesty

4. Integrity

5. Talkative

6. Loves to scrapbook

7. Good with kids

8. Outgoing

8 songs i could listen to over and over again:

1. Just a Dream- Carrie Underwood

2. There Goes My Life- Kenny Chesney

3. Anything my son sings to me...he cracks me up!

4. Broken Road- Rascall Flatts (that is mine and Nick's song)

5. Over and Over- Nelly and Tim McGraw

6. Sounds So Good- Ashdon Sheppard

7. Realize- Colbie Caillat

8. Beautiful Disaster- Kelly Clarkson

8 things i have learned this past year:

1. Everything works out. No matter what the problem, it always works out...it just takes more time than I would like most of the time.

2. I'm a much more patient mother than I thought I would be.

3. I get burned out on my job easily.

4. Don't sweat the small things. If Nick puts his dish in the sink...oh well. It'll get washed eventually.

5. It's better to be happy with the way things are then to stress about everything being perfect all the time.

6. I can lose weight on Weight Watchers (LOVE IT!)

7. I love to blog!

8. If I can raise my kids to be righteous, sweet, caring, humans, then I have done a good job.

8 random things about me:

1. I didn't eat meat from the time I was 14 until I was 23.

2. I graduated with both my bachelors and my masters degrees when I was 22.

3. I was born in Germany

4. I was a Varsity diver in Highschool, until I got injured my Junior year.

5. I hate to fly, even though I've done it my whole life.

6. I'm secretly addicted to the Disney channel.

7. I'm always cold. Even with the heat on in the winter, I'll take 2 or 3 baths a day just to warm up.

8. I'm messy. My house is messy, my car is messy, and that's just the way I am. I try to keep up but I just can't, so I've settled with the fact that it's the way it's going to be for a while.

8 other people I think should do the 8

1. April

2. Carrie

3. Jodie

4. Aimee

5. Cheramie

6. Mary

7. Christina

8. Marium
